Iran Pardons 22000 People Who Took Part of Protests
According to the official IRNA news agency, Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, the head of Iran's judiciary, announced on Monday that 22,000 protesters had been pardoned.
Early last month, state media reported that Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei had released "tens of thousands" of prisoners, some of whom had been detained during the protests as part of a deadly crackdown on dissent
According to Ejei, 22,000 of the 82,000 people who have received pardons so far were protesters.
He didn't say how long the pardons were granted or whether or when the individuals had been charged.
Iran has experienced a wave of protests since a young Iranian Kurdish woman died while in the morality police's care last September
One of the most audacious challenges to the Islamic Republic since the 1979 revolution has been made with the participation of Iranians from all socioeconomic backgrounds.
