Quest 2, Quest Pro VR Headsets' prices are reduced by Meta.
Once more, Meta is decreasing the cost of its VR headsets. The announcement follows Meta (previously Facebook) raising the cost of the Meta Quest 2 VR headset less than a year ago (formerly, and sometimes still, the Oculus Quest 2).
The modifications, which CEO Mark Zuckerberg disclosed this morning, take effect on March 5. The Quest 2's base model with 128GB of storage is still $400, but the model with 256GB of storage will drop to $430, representing a $30 price increase for twice as much app space as there was previously. Currently, two games—Golf+ and Space Pirate Trainer DX—are included with both Quest 2 models. Prices for other countries were not immediately available, but $430 is equivalent to about £360 or AU$640.
The Meta Quest Pro cost $1,500 (AU$2,550) at launch.
Nonetheless, at least for the time being, I wouldn't advise you to get either of these headsets. Although the Quest 2 is still CNET's choice for the finest VR headset overall, it is two and a half years old, and Meta's Quest 3 replacement is anticipated this fall. It will cost more than the Quest 2, but it should be smaller, have better mixed-reality features, and have a quicker processor, according to a leaked internal meeting at Meta that The Verge obtained. In 2024, Meta might have a new headset that is even more inexpensive.
However, the standard Quest 2's 128GB storage is likely more than enough for most users (although, at $430, I'd be more tempted).
Better display, colour passthrough cameras, and eye and face tracking cameras are features of the Meta Quest Pro, which is designed for business rather than games. But, it is still not considerably better than the Quest 2 to justify an additional $600, and Meta has obviously having trouble selling them.
Also, throughout 2023, additional VR headset competitors are probably going to appear.
The 256GB Meta Quest 2 SKU will see price changes on March 5 in the following nations: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, the UK, and the US, according to a press release from Meta. The price cut for Meta Quest Pro will go into effect in the US and Canada on March 5 and March 15 in all other countries where Meta Quest pro is supported.
