Tesla decrease all model prices for the second time this year

 Tesla Inc. reduced the prices of each vehicle once again in the US after adjusting prices throughout the first quarter, which resulted in an increase in sales.

Each version of the company’s more popular model 3 and Y electric vehicles received a minimum $1000 discount and variants of its more expensive model S and X vehicles received a $5000 discount.  It also unveiled a new Model Y base model with a starting price of $49,990.





Following lineup cuts in mid-January, this is Tesla's second significant price reduction of the year.



Elon Musk is willing to sacrifice Tesla's profitability to help keep up with rising interest rates and a possible recession. He is in a difficult position as incumbents like Ford Motor Co. and newer entrants like Rivian Automotive Inc. and Lucid Group Inc. struggle to make money at lower volumes.


Musk warned that Tesla's supply-demand dynamic led to a 4% increase in deliveries and 18,000 more cars than it gave over to customers.


Tesla achieved a 10,695 vehicle breakdown in Q1 2021, the lowest since the third quarter of 2021.



Tesla has lowered the price of vehicles for transportation by at least $20,000 and up to $34,000.


The US automaker marked down vehicles in China earlier this year, triggering a price war in the world's largest new-energy vehicle market. Tesla shipped 88,869 vehicles from its Shanghai factory in March, with a significant price differential between its Model 3 and Model Y. Tesla is facing stiffer competition from China's BYD Co., with analysts expecting the Berkshire Hathaway Inc.-backed manufacturer to challenge for the No. 1 spot this year.


Tesla needs to increase its vehicle deliveries to keep up with the rate investors are used to. Last year, the company fell short of its target for a 50% average annual increase in vehicle deliveries, expanding by 40%. 


The Austin, Texas-based company will report earnings on April 19.
